ZURICH, Switzerland, – February 9, 2011 – Today, Raskin Software LLC announces Raskin 1.2.2, a free update to its seamlessly zoomable file browser for Mac. The update adds a convenient Services contextual menu giving access to all file and folder related Services provided by Mac OS X as well as custom Services installed or created by the user. This can be an Automator Action to rotate or scale the currently viewed picture directly on the Raskin Surface or a file renaming action like Junecloud’s “Make Names Web-Friendly”, a must-have for web designers.
Other improvements to the application, that provides an interactive visual overview of the files stored on your hard drive, include many performance optimizations as well as better compatibility with popular Quick Look plug-ins and specific hardware configurations. With this update Raskin also expands it’s license agreement allowing users to install the software on multiple Macs they own, for example their office and home machine.
In December, The Next Web said “you might surprise yourself with how much time you can save using Raskin” and listed it as one of the “10 Best Productivity Apps of 2010”. Macworld UK recommends Raskin as a forerunner of the “more user-friendly era” to come, implementing many of the features expected from Mac OS X Lion today.
Raskin Software LLC released Raskin – a zoomable desktop alternative to the Macintosh Finder – in June 2010. Raskin shows the computer’s contents (folders, documents and applications) on a single surface, allowing the user to visually find and organize files. Once a document is located, the user can zoom-in to preview the document before opening. Raskin is named after and inspired by the work of Macintosh visionary Jef Raskin.
